What is a notary public and what do they do?

A Notary is a state appointed individual commissioned to witness the signing of important documents and administer oaths.

What Acts can a notary perform?

Under the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts, notaries public are authorized to perform six notarial acts:

1. Take an acknowledgement

2. Administer oaths and affirmations

3. Take a verification on oath or affirmation (includes an affidavit)

4. Witness or attest a signature

5. Certify or attest a copy or deposition

6. Note a protest of a negotiable instrument.

How much does it cost to hire a notary public?

Fees for notarial acts are set by each state ( See Chart )

In addition to the fees for each notarial act, there may be travel, clerical ,or administrative fees depending on each transaction type. These fees are required to be reasonable but are set by the individual business.

Our most common charges:

• Fax Backs - $15

• Print Documents for signing $.35 per page (Unless charged in package).

• $35 Cancellation Fee, (plus travel fee, if we have traveled for appointment) if notice has not been given within 1 hour of appointment time.

• 3.5% Fee for all debit card, credit card, and electronic (Venmo, Square, ETC) transactions.

• $30 fee on all returned checks

• Witnesses provided $25 per person per 30 minutes. Plus travel fee.

• Mobile Notary Travel Rates-

  0-15 miles: $35 base rate

  16-25 miles add an additional $25 to the base rate.

  26-50 miles add an additional $45 to the base rate.

  After Hours Fee: 8:00pm-2:00am - additional $30

  2:00am-7:00am - additional $50

  After Hours Fee is in addition to travel fee and notarization fee.

• Nursing home, prison, and hospital travels rates are based upon the institution. Call or request an estimate.

What types of documents can be notarized?

Certifying or attesting a copy or deposition.

Witnessing or attesting a signature

Notarization of personal and corporate documents such as deeds, wills, certificates, power of attorney, affidavits, acknowledgments, depositions, oaths, protests, verifications, court documents, prison documents and others.

Immigration Forms: Green Card, Visa, and more

Mortgage loan document signings: refinance, purchase, HELOCs, reverse mortgages

Parental consent forms, Family related documents, Medical documents, Trust related documents​, School forms

What will you need?

The signer must be physically present: All notarial acts (except for certifying or attesting a copy or deposition), require that the individual making the statement or executing the signature must appear personally before the notary public and that the notary public must have personal knowledge or satisfactory evidence of the identity of the individual. The notary public must be able to observe and interact with the individual making the statement or executing the signature.

Have Proper Identification: The proper method for determining the identity of a person appearing before a notary is either through “personal knowledge” or “satisfactory evidence.” Proper ID can be: A passport, state-issued driver's license or government-issued nondriver identification card, which must be current and unexpired.

If a document needs to be certified as a true and original copy, have the original document available. We can not certify a copy of a certified copy. Birth, death, and marriage certificates are "certified copies" of the original records, you must order them from the state or government body that issued them.

We have the right to refuse to perform any notarial act when satisfactory evidence of the individual signing, document to be notarized, or the documents originality are not met.
